Outgrowing Maternity Clothes

I didn't know that could happen, but it did. Either my hips have gotten bigger or my maternity clothes have gotten smaller. My shirt selection has dwindled as most of them don't cover my belly anymore.

Most women want to be able to fit into their pre-pregnancy clothes; I'll be happy when I can just start wearing my elastic waistband maternity pants again. Remind me I said that in 2 months when I'm depressed that my regular jeans don't fit yet.

The upside is this can't possibly go on much longer, the baby has got to be here soon. Europe's "The Final Countdown" keeps playing in my head.

Tomato Soup

Last night I just wanted panini and tomato soup for dinner, but I didn't have any tomato soup. No problem, I thought, what do I have in the cabinet? Well, I just happened to have the makings of a pretty fantastic and easy home-made tomato soup, and I wanted to share what I did.

Although, I almost feel bad calling it home-made because it was so easy.

-2 cans of diced tomatoes, basil garlic and olive oil flavor
-about 1/2 c. of milk
-4 tbsp butter
-salt and pepper

Open the two cans of diced tomatoes and dump them in a sauce pan, juice and all. Bring them to a boil, then let them simmer for 30 minutes. Once they have simmered, blend them up, either in a blender, food processor, or one of those hand-held milkshake maker deals (this is what I used). Note that if you're going to use a milkshake maker thing, it is probably a good idea to take the pan off of the heat before you do this. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything. Anyway, once it is blended up, put it back on the stove over very low heat - you don't want it to bubble anymore, just stay warm. Add the salt, pepper, milk, and butter and stir until combined and warmed through. That's pretty much it.

Of course, you could add herbs, more milk, cheese, anything you'd like at this point - but I used the already seasoned tomatoes so I didn't have to do any of that stuff. I'm all about easy these days.

What's in a Name?

At 20 weeks, we found out we're having a boy. We found out on my birthday no less, how cool is that?

His room is almost ready and we've already bought him a ton of little outfits - we couldn't help ourselves, we were so excited. K is looking forward to having a son, and there are lots of other little baby boys that we know right now, so he's going to have no shortage of playmates as he grows up.

Baby names are interesting things - I've always felt that children live up to their names. My stepmom pointed out how important names are to God too, and I never really thought about it that way before, but she's right. There are many times in the bible where God either changes some one's name, or identifies a name for a child before he is born.

With this in mind, we've decided to name him Ethan - it means Strong. And he is already living up to it, even before being born. He kicked early, and K got to feel him kick earlier than normal for a first baby.

I'm 27 weeks now and there is no doubting that there is a baby on the way. People don't hesitate to ask now like they did a couple months ago - a couple months ago, it wasn't apparent if there was a baby on the way, or if I was just "eating too much pie" as the security guy at work said.

K and I took a belly picture the other day and I'll be posting that as soon as I can accomplish the pairing up of my camera and my camera dock - one or the other has been at work while its mate is at home since we took the pictures.

Expectations

Kevin and I are expecting, our due date is February 2nd. And no, we don't know if we're having a boy or a girl yet. Seems to be the first question everyone asks. We're scheduled to find out on my birthday though, and that date is fast approaching (September 17th).

I can't believe I'm already 17 weeks along. I'm creeping towards the halfway point (20 weeks) and it is freaking me out. I'm reconciled to the idea of being pregnant, and I want a baby, but the reality of having a new little person I'm responsible for taking care of is setting in. I can't wait to meet our baby though.

We're getting things ready, trying to plan baby showers, turning the office into a nursery, ordering a crib. All the things you do to prepare. I just didn't expect how HARD things would be when I got pregnant.

I went to the gym yesterday, and I've tried to stay active and work out to keep in shape, but it is more difficult than I expected it to be. I'm weaker than I was before I was pregnant, and I don't have as much energy. I always thought I would be one of those gung-ho-working-out pregnant ladies, but then I actually got pregnant and realized why so many women have trouble staying active while they're expecting. Its hard!

Happily there is a crossfit resource for pregnant ladies. One of the trainers out at BrandX hosts that site, and it is specifically geared for pregnant women and new moms. She posts workouts for most days of the week, and there are archives if the posted workout doesn't strike your fancy. I've found that these workouts generally fulfill the recommended 30-minute guidelines for pregnant women. And while they may look easy, you know, if you're not carrying around a kid inside you, I can assure you that in the prenatal state, they are not easy.

She's got scaling for all levels of fitness from advanced to beginner. I was such a pukey slacker for my first trimester, that I'm doing the beginner workouts. If you're expecting and you're not exercising, go over to CrossFit Moms and check it out. You can whine and complain while you're working out if you want to, that's your right as a pregnant woman, but you'll be so glad you got up and got moving.

More Pictures

Just a couple more pictures taken at the local mall this afternoon to test out the camera some more...

Photobucket

My handsome hubby striking a pose. He dubbed this the "corny James Dean pose" but I liked it and told him to be still and be quiet. And I think it turned out rather nicely.

Photobucket
The entrance to the mall...really just an effort to capture something pretty and then spruce it up in Photoshop, and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

As a side note, I tried to host these on Flickr, and I'm apparently Flickr handicapped. I couldn't figure out how to find the url of the image. I gave up and stuck them on my Photobucket account, since I know how to use that one.

New Camera

A little over a week ago my mom sent me a link to The Pioneer Woman's blog. Her blog is quite pleasant to read and she's quite funny when she writes. Mom thought I would like reading her writing, but I believe what drew mom's interest to this blog was that PW (Pioneer Woman) is a photographer. As is my mom.

This got me thinking....I want a camera! I used to help mom out on her photo shoots, especially weddings, and I really enjoyed it.

I did a lot of research, and finally settled on a Nikon D80. Mostly because it is the brand mom uses and the exact camera my brother uses.

I anxiously awaited the arrival of my camera since I ordered it Friday night, and today it came in. Once I got home from work, of course, I immediately started taking pictures. I got this one of the princess that I quite like.

I <3 CrossFit

I adore CrossFit. I've had the most amazing fitness gains since I started it back in January.

Some highlights of last week:

1. Ran a 5k on Saturday. Last time I attempted the 5k back on Feb. 1st, and my time was something completely ridiculous, like 48 minutes. Saturday time was 33:44. I was totally amazed by the improvement in such a short time, especially since I've only been doing CrossFit and not any running regimen, except for what is included in my workouts and warm-ups, and those are barely ever more than 400m at a time. Also, when I started Crossfit, I could hardly run 400m without walking. In the 5k, I got to about 3k before I walked at all.

2. Deadlift - achieving new Personal Records (PRs). My max for the last round of 1-rep deadlifts I did was 165 lbs. I tried to lift 175 lbs that day, and couldn't get the weight to budge. Last Thursday the workout came up again, and my max was 180 lbs, an increase of 15 lbs in just a couple of weeks.

3. Double-Unders - I'm finally coordinated enough to do them! When I started CrossFit, I couldn't even do the basic bounce well, and now I can knock those out like a champ and am moving on to developing sets of double-unders.

4. Air Squats and Situps - most of the time when these are in the workout, in any quantity (4 rounds of 50 for example), I'm not really even sore the next day.

CrossFit works. It's fun, it's functional, it changes your whole outlook on fitness. Yeah...I drank the Kool-Aid!
